{"id":6,"date":"2024-05-30T15:54:31","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T15:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2025-01-24T17:55:01","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T17:55:01","slug":"about-me","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/?page_id=6","title":{"rendered":"About me"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Gr\u00fcezi and welcome to my personal website!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hslu.ch\/en\/lucerne-university-of-applied-sciences-and-arts\/about-us\/people-finder\/profile\/?pid=5178\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">professor<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.hslu.ch\/immersive-realities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Immersive Realities Center<\/a> (IRC) &#8211; an interdisciplinary ecosystem at the departement of computer science of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). I am head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hslu.ch\/en\/lucerne-school-of-information-technology\/degree-programs\/bachelor\/immersive-technologies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bachelor&#8217;s program in Immersive Technologies<\/a>, give lectures and talks, and conduct research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to my engagement at HSLU, I also teach as a guest lecturer at other educational institutions, am chapter lead for immersive technologies at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalveterans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digital Veterans Association<\/a> and advise companies and start-ups (on a mandate basis or as a member of advisory boards, etc.). I also often share my expertise and enthusiasm for my specialties as keynote speaker. Because my career path has been anything but straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I started my career as a secondary school teacher &#8211; first in Rapperswil-Jona and later at the Swiss International School in Rome. I taught mainly languages (German, English, French and Latin) but also history and geography. At that time, the subject &#8222;computer science&#8220; had just been introduced and no one really dared to take it on. Despite my linguistic-historical background, the adventure appealed to me and so I somehow slipped into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Hololens-HSLU-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Hololens-HSLU-1024x683-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Hololens-HSLU-1024x683-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nathaly-tschanz.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Hololens-HSLU-1024x683-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although I enjoyed teaching a lot \u2013 after a few years it became clear to me that I was looking for a new professional challenge. So I started looking for further training at the interface of information and technology. I found it in the form of a part-time international master&#8217;s degree in &#8222;New Media Journalism&#8220;. At the same time, I switched to the media business and became a journalist at S\u00fcdostschweiz Medien (now Somedia).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing my master&#8217;s degree, I wanted to gain more in-depth online experience &#8211; ideally at a company where the internet is the central pillar of the business model. So I joined Scout24 as a project and content manager and was responsible for corporate communications for the ImmoScout24 real estate platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had written my master&#8217;s thesis on augmented reality, and during the many discussions I had with experts, it became clear that there was a real awareness problem. At that time, the technologies were still largely unknown and hardly anyone had the opening potential on their radar. That was the reason for me to publish a practical handbook for augemented reality in 2015 together with my co-author Dirk Schart. A second and expanded edition came out in 2017: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8222;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.de\/Augmented-Reality-Marketing-Medien-Relations\/dp\/3867648220\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Augmented and Mixed Reality for Marketing, Media and Public Relations<\/a>&#8222;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My next professional station combined my accumulated experience as a journalist and in the online business. I became Head of Digital Content at Ringier Axel Springer Switzerland and was responsible for building up and managing the online editorial team of the Swiss magazine &#8222;Beobachter&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My passion for immersive technologies never faded though. Through the two book projects, I received more and more consulting requests from companies, for lectures and articles in journals. It became more and more difficult to reconcile both career paths and at some point I had to make a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I became a lecturer (and later professor) at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons for Digital Business Management and Extended Reality and besides teaching, I was able to lead interesting research projects.
